“Radiant Rebels came into my life at a time I needed it most. As a Latinx mother, community member and public school educator working and living in Minneapolis/St. Paul, the unprecedented invasion of our cities by masked and armed federal immigration agents rocked my world in big and small ways.  Amidst the cruelty, fear and endless hours of resistance and mutual aid work, my monthly time in the Radiant Rebels was not only a refuge and a comfort but also a space in which I learned to hone my voice, to imagine a different world, and to garner the strength I needed to keep fighting.  In Radiant Rebels, Julia has created something that is so needed in our resistance movement right now: connections to the natural world, rituals, symbolism, mindfulness, open-heartedness and storytelling are potent antidotes to the harshness of our times. As Resmaa Menakem and so many other resistance movement leaders remind us; the key to doing this work in a healing way is to allow it to thicken your skin but not harden your heart.
